For the app

Add a pet from your computer

Fifteen digits of microchip number is no fun on a phone keyboard. Fill your pet's details in here instead, scan the code with your phone, and Household Pet opens with all of it already entered — you just check it and tap save.

Nothing is sent anywhere, and you do not need an account to fill this in.

How it works

  1. Fill in the form. Name, species and sex are the three the app insists on; the rest is optional and all of it can be edited later.
  2. Scan the code with your phone's camera. No scanner app needed — the camera app on both iPhone and Android recognises it and offers to open the link.
  3. Check and save. The app shows you what it read before it creates anything, so a code scanned by accident cannot write to your pets.

Your answers never reach us. They are encoded into the code itself and travel from this screen to your phone directly — which is how the page manages to work without an account, an email address, or anything to sign up for.

What the behaviour checkboxes are for

Outdoor access and contact with other animals change what your pet is actually at risk of — they drive which parasite reminders make sense and how urgently a symptom should be looked at. “Pregnant or nursing” raises the urgency of a whole set of signs, which is why the app asks. None of them are required, and you can change them whenever things change.

Common questions

Do I need an account to use this page?
Not to fill it in. The details you type never leave your browser — they are encoded into the QR code itself, which is why the page works without a sign-in. You will need a free Household Pet account on your phone to actually save the pet, since that is where the record lives.
How does the QR code carry my pet across?
The code is a link holding your answers as plain text — species, name, breed and so on. Scanning it opens the app, which shows you what it read and waits for you to confirm before creating anything. Nothing is uploaded to us in between, and nothing is saved until you tap save in the app.
Why can I not add a photo here?
A QR code holds a couple of hundred characters — enough for your pet’s details, nowhere near enough for a picture. Add the photo in the app once the pet exists; it takes one tap from their profile.
Why does the code only appear once I have filled in three fields?
The app will not save a pet without a name, a species and a sex, so a code carrying less would leave you finishing the form on your phone — which is the thing this page exists to avoid. Everything else is optional and can be changed later.
I do not have the app yet. Is this still worth filling in?
Yes, but keep this tab open. Scanning the code on a phone without the app takes you to a page with the install links; once you have installed it and signed up, scan the same code again and your details drop straight into the new pet form. An app install cannot carry them across on its own.
Can I use this for a second or third pet?
Yes — it is the same screen the app uses for every pet, not just the first. Fill it in, scan, save, then clear the form and do the next one.

While you are here

One pet in, the rest takes care of itself

Once a pet exists, Household Pet keeps their vaccinations, parasite treatments, weight and vet visits in one place, reminds you before things are due, and lets you share the lot with whoever else looks after them.
